MasterBrand Expert Quoted in USA TODAY Home About Black Design Trend
USA TODAY Home (March 2016) — MasterBrand Cabinets Senior Design Studio Manager Stephanie Pierce is quoted in a USA TODAY Home magazine article on the use of black as a versatile interior design choice for many rooms in the home. The article, titled "Classic Black Goes Beyond Basic for a Fresh, New Look" appears in the Spring 2016 premium publication by USA Today.
According to the article, black is far from dull and drab in home decorating, and is alive with elegance, power, warmth and authority. Just as a little black dress works for every occasion, the classic black wall, floor, trim, fireplace, light fixture, cabinet or accent can work in any room design.
"You might think black will make a room too dark. There are ways to avoid that," says Stephanie Piece, senior design manager at MasterBrand Cabinets. "If you're going to go with a lot of black you need at least that same amount of brightness in the space, whether in wall space or window space or bright white ceilings or light floors," she says.
In the kitchen and laundry, Pierce advises to aim for a 50-50 balance: "If you don't have a lot of natural light, the best thing to do is make sure that you integrate a lot of lighting in to your space." To boost lighting, she suggests adding recessed lighting "to create a brighter overall feel" and integrating LED lighting inside and underneath cabinets "and even in the toe kick areas or above the cabinets."
